Contact Your U.S. Senators: Defund Planned Parenthood

Mass Catholic Conference and a number of organizations have sent out email alerts urging us to contact our U.S. Senators today in support of Senate Bill 1881, a bill to defund Planned Parenthood.  Please act now and tell your friends and relatives to contact your U.S. Senators. Even in states like Massachusetts where the pro-abortion bias by our elected officials is well-established, they should still hear our voices.

Here is the message from Mass Catholic Conference:

Attached please find a letter from Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley in support of Senate Bill 1881, a bill to defund Planned Parenthood.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the National Knights of Columbus are asking citizens to contact their U.S. Senator(s) today and ask them to support S. 1881.

Senator Elizabeth Warren can be reached at (202) 224-4543
Senator Edward Markey can be reached at (202) 224-2742

Letter from Cardinal O’Malley to U.S. Senate:

August 3, 2015

Dear Senator:

I am writing to ask your support for S. 1881, to withhold federal funds from the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and its affiliates.

It has long been troubling to many Americans that the nation’s largest abortion network, performing over a third of all abortions, receives over half a billion taxpayer dollars a year. This concern has rightly grown in recent years.

The most recent revelations about Planned Parenthood’s willingness to traffic in fetal tissue from abortions, and to alter abortion methods not for any reason related to women’s health but to obtain more “intact” organs, is the latest demonstration of a callousness toward women and their unborn children that is shocking to many Americans.

The Catholic Church comes to this issue from a perspective rooted in experience. Catholic charitable agencies and pregnancy help centers have helped countless pregnant women find life-affirming alternatives to abortion. Our hospitals and other health facilities are second to none in providing quality health care for women.

We support the legislative proposal to reallocate federal funding, so that women can obtain their health care from providers that do not promote abortion. It is my sincere hope that you will be able to help advance this goal by supporting S. 1881.

Seán Cardinal O’Malley
Archbishop of Boston
Chairman Committee on Pro-Life Activities U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops

Is he doing anything, or just sending out a press release? This might be the one time I’d be thrilled to see him be an airport bishop and fly to Washington (with a camera crew) to try to see our Senators personally. If he can go to the Mexican border to hold a Mass, he can say a Rosary at the US Capitol, can’t he?

Sometimes I think Cardinal Sean has turned into the Wizard of Oz, always with gatekeepers to bar the way.

  2. D Paul says:

It’s a little late in the game. Now Cardinal Raymond Burke was removed as Archbishop of St. Louis for his views on pro abortion Catholic politicians in 2008. The Church is obviously a “social justice” institution at present with morality a secondary consideration. The assumption is that if you solve economic conditions for the poor, they will then stop abortions and turn to God. It didn’t work for Moses and it won’t work for the liberals who have taken over the Church.

  3. O’Malley makes himself invisible in these matters. Where is he on the TV? Why does he not come out via Sunday letter to the parishes ? Why indeed .

  4. Steve says:

Why doesn’t Cardinal O’Malley call out Edward Markey publicly??? Is he not Markeys Bishop??? Lets face the facts, the Church has been silent for fifty plus years on it’s own teachings. Faithful Catholics are left looking like fools because the Cardinal says nothing to support them. It’s my opinion that the Catholic Church hierarchy ceded their moral authority years ago. Good luck getting Planned Parenthood defunded!!!!!!!

A firm slap on the wrist with a wet noodle.
    “traffic in fetal tissue”?

YA Sure, write a letter to Markey and Warren.

“Honey, the kitchen is on fire.”
“OK dear, I’ll write a letter to the fire department tonight”

St. Francis would toss Dear Sean out of the order on his buttocks for such drivel. For God’s sake, MAKE A FIST LIKE A MAN.

    Note the soup and shudder.

    • S W says:

      Upon further reflection;

“I am writing to ask your support for S. 188, and to withhold federal funds … blah, blah, blah”

“OH! I thought you were writing because there is a federally funded company that kills babies and dismembers them and sell the bits and pieces. You just wanted to ask for my support? Cool. Ya, ya I think I could support S. 188, I am sure we could tie together some mutually beneficial legislation.”
